The Nicest Coffee. The Nicest People.

Mike and Amelia founded The Barn in 2017, when Mahone Bay was crying out for a coffee shop where you could just go and hang out. Mahone Bay itself is the only town on the South Shore which is growing, with many of the locals now coming from Europe and beyond. Someone had to get the Espresso machine going, and these guys did it in style.

Both being super entrepreneurial and with experience running other businesses, they took this old building and turned it into the amazing social spot that it is today. They are super fun people to be around, and you can see how happy their staff are. All of this just makes for a super fun place to be, with amazing coffee and eats.

    Super friendly here

The staff and the owners are super friendly and welcoming. They have a great selection of coffees and pastries/quiches. The quiche lorraine is probably the best I've ever had. The staff were very smiley and open to questions. The owner came over and chatted with us at our table later and he was very welcoming and friendly.

Best coffee and fresh baked goods EVER

Our hotel concierge in Lunenberg recommended The Barn & Social House in Mahone Bay, about 15 miles away, for a relaxed drive - some sightseeing- and the best coffee around. What a great place! Not only were the owners there and working behind the counter, but the fresh baked goods were delicious to accompany the wonderful coffee (satisfying SF bay area java junkies like us). As we enjoyed the rustic yet elegant atmosphere, we struck up a conversation with a local couple who happened to be in for a coffee/pastry themselves. Such nice folks - we talked about travel, the local Mahone Bay economy, growing up in the area, health care, work and family. A simple social interaction, a coffee house extraordinaire, and a young couple building their own business made Mahone Bay a favorite spot in Nova Scotia.

    The Best Chai Latte

My husband and I and our two young sons stopped in here tonight for some warm beverages to enjoy as we strolled the streets of Mahone Bay for the Scarecrow Festival. I had a chai latte and it was one of the best I’ve ever tasted. My son had a peanut butter smore cookie which I had a bite of and it was delicious. Amazing detail was put into the atmosphere here. Very welcoming. Free wifi. A great addition to Mahone Bay. We will be back for sure.

    Great atmosphere

Beautifully restored building! Would be a neat location to have a small event. The coffee was great and pumpkin spice lattes were added to the menu the last day of our trip - also great. Fairly certain the delicious pastries are from Boulangerie La Vendéenne just up the road, great to see local businesses supporting one another.

    ADVENTUREmm

Every time I visit I fall a little more in love

Every time I visit I fall a little more in love, they have provided me with the best soy latte in Mahone Bay, and a reason to never go anywhere else to get one (I’ve tried everywhere and I used to be a barista so I’m picky lol). As soon as you walk in you feel welcome and the warmth of community, there is nothing else quite like this in Mahone Bay. They sell an assortment pastries and bread from a local french bakery, soups and sandwiches, and homemade jams, jellies, and pickles etc. They also have their own parking lot which is great because parking is sometimes tricky in Mahone Bay especially during summer months. Simply a must stop during your visit to and easily the most Instagram-able spot in Mahone Bay if that’s your thing.
